Practical Magic 2 (2026) Review: A Sequel That Maintains Its Sisterhood If Not Its Charm

Sequel to Practical Magic (1998), Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles as the magical Owens sisters, but when the family curse continues to affect the next generation of witches, they must own up to their past if they want a new future.

Practical Magic 2

Practical Magic 2 is a cash-grab sequel favoured by those with nostalgic ties to the original film; for everyone else, the movie is severely lacking. It’s a jarring amalgamation of the old and the new as the movie tries to maintain that single-setting sepia charm of the original but then throws in an international side quest to keep the attention of the new generation of filmgoers, and it doesn’t quite add up. One thing the movie does do well is keep it centred on the women, despite starring walking green flag Xolo Maridueña and an enigmatic and tatted Lee Pace.

Great to see Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest return to play the aunts, Franny and Jet, but when you throw in new additions Joey King and Maisie Williams, then this film has more characters than it knows what to do with. One element that continues to work is the sisterhood between Bullock and Kidman; that bond is what gives this slightly messy, wholly unnecessary sequel a little magic.
