Quinn Ackerman (Sabrina Carpenter) has been waiting to go to Duke University for as long as she can remember. She takes AP classes and ticks all the right extracurricular boxes. Unfortunately, Duke has decided to shake up their admissions and so the only way Quinn can get in is if she shakes things up too.

Admittedly I stopped watching dance movies somewhere around Step Up 2, and teen movies in the last few years or so, but as I was familiar with Sabrina Carpenter (who starred in the Boy Meets World continued series, Girl Meets World) I thought why not.
To be perfectly honest with you. It’s a movie I have seen at least two or three times before in the past. Spun a little differently it’s still the concept of having to form your own dance crew with a bunch of misfits – but with a generation, I don’t understand. Also, I found that the dance performances themselves weren’t actually that great which was disappointing, to say the least.
The cast will appeal to some more than others especially as they are made up of the newer budding class. I thought I did very well for myself by recognising three out of four of the more principal cast members.
I like that there were essentially no secrets being dangled, waiting to drop. It also felt honest in its non-convolutedness, and it was refreshing that it took place in a regular middle-classed highschool instead of using some sort of inner-city rival group.
If you want a harmless hour and a half watch then go for it. But you could just as easily skip it.
