Guy Ritchie.

Okay, I guess I should say more than that – I’d always intended to watch this movie but after Richie’s latest directed movie; Aladdin I was itching for more of his distinctive directorial style. Instead of rewatching King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, I thought I’d choose something new (to me).

Sidebar: I wonder how many times this year alone I’ve brought up King Arthur: Legend of the Sword?

Snatch

A diamond en route from Antwerp to America has a tricky layover in London when slippery Russian – Boris the Blade, makes a play to steal it from under courier Franky Four-Fingers nose. To avoid suspicion, Boris the Blade recruits Pawn Shop owners Sol (Lennie James) and Vinnie (Robbie Gee) to grab Frankie Four-Fingers.

Unfortunately, the location they choose for the grab belongs to ruthless and unforgiving mobster Brick-Top (Alan Ford). The bookie owner currently has his own problems dealing with Turkish (Jason Statham), Tommy (Stephen Graham) and their unruly bare-knuckle Gypsy fighter Mickey (Brad Pitt).

Diamonds, dogs, dead bodies and double-crossings; it’s a standard week in the life on the London gangster scene.

Snatch

This movie was a lot of fun.

Admittedly it did take me a little while to grasp names and where they fit into the story but overall I enjoyed the fast-paced nature of the story and how the filming and editing matched it to a T.

Snatch is pure British – you know, aside from that whole Brad Pitt thing – and has a number of notable actors from the likes of  Jason Statham (Fast and Furious Franchise, The Meg), Stephen Graham (Rocketman, Line of Duty) and Lennie James (Line of Duty, Save Me) to old school classics like ex-football player Vinnie Jones and Eastenders veteran Mike Reid.

To be honest there’s not much more I can say about this movie; it gave me what I wanted from the quick cuts, camera tricks and snappy – often incredibly random – dialogue. It was also good to have finally watched a core Guy Ritchie movie and the origins that gave him the clout he has today.

  1. SNATCH is one of those movies that I’ll watch and enjoy but fifteen minutes after, I’ll be switched if I can tell you what it’s about. It’s one of those those movies that just doesn’t stick with me.

    1. The movie was so hectic and takes a while to get into the flow of that it’s not surprising. Even now I only remember a few specific details, but the feeling of enjoyment is definitely still there! Glad to have finally viewed an old school Ritchie movie though
