Did we even have a July this year? Or an August for that matter. What even is Summer at this point?

This month I accidentally became obsessed with watching as many movies as possible from the DC Animated Universe I could get my hands on.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (Cinema)
Garage Sale Mystery: The Beach Murder (Sky)
Justice League (Sky) [Rewatch]
Extinction (Netflix)
Set It Up (Netflix)
When Harry Met Sally (Netflix) [Rewatch]
Home Again (Netflix) [Rewatch]
How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days (DVD) [Rewatch]
The Snowman (Sky)
Batman Year One (Sky)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (Sky)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2
(Sky)
Batman: Assault on Arkham
(Sky)
Skyscraper (Online)
The Equalizer 2 (Cinema)
Batman: The Killing Joke (Sky)
As Good As It Gets (Sky)
Garage Sale Mysteries: The Pandora’s Box Murders (Sky)
Justice League vs Teen Titans (Sky)
Justice League Dark (Sky)
Newsies (Sky)
The Princess Bride (Film4) [Rewatch]

I have admittedly wound down with my television series’ for the time being to make room for other things in life (not just watching cartoon movies I swear!). Please excuse this embarrassingly sparse list.

Started
Gilmore Girls (Netflix) [Re-watch]
Jessica Jones (Netflix)
For the People (Sky Witness)
Bodyguard (BBC One)
Marlon – Season 2 (Netflix)
Insecure – Season 3 (Sky)

Completed
Mark Kermode’s Secret’s of Cinema (BBC Four)
Ackley Bridge – Season 2 (Channel 4)
Picnic at Hanging Rock(BBC Two)

Ongoing
Ingobernable (Netflix)

My favourite of the month was…. Batman: The Killing Joke. I watched so many Batman movies it was highly probable that my favourite would come from Gotham. With this specific movie, I really enjoyed the animation style and the closer look at Batgirl and her history – something I’d never thought about before. There is a level of grit you expect from these movies and Batman: The Killing Joke certainly delivered.

Over on Letterboxd I write a few lines in review for every movie, not just the ones I see in cinema if you want to check those out.

Least you forget I happen to also be an avid reader, and this month I was focused on catching up with some popular novels. I did okay but considering I had thirteen books on my proposed list… I could have done better.

Sweatpants at Tiffanie’s by Pernille Hughes
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
The Power by Naomi Alderman
Legendary by Stephanie Garber
Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu
Unconditionally by Erin Lyon

My favourite novel for the month was…. Legendary by Stephanie Garber.  The second book in the Caraval series, I was surprised to find it a lot more enjoyable and developed than the first. Normally in books you find that you can’t always trust the narrator – this was my first experience where I realised I couldn’t trust the story. Definitely read Caraval first, but look forward to an even trippier ride with Legendary.

Check out my Goodreads for reviews and such.

Roll on September.

One response to “August Movies, TV & Books Wrap-Up”

  1. Seems like August was a great month. Definitely interested to catch Picnic at Hanging Rock in the future. And how did you like The Power?
