As I wasn’t organised enough to do a 2017 wrap-up, and just stuck to one for December, I figured I might as well do this one in January. Tis the season of looking ahead and what not, and so without any further ado, my Top Five anticipated Movies and Television Series for 2018.
Movies
1. Black Panther
This movie is so hyped right now. Well I say now. It’s been hyped since the trailer dropped seven months ago and I for one have been waiting in anticipation ever since, and I’m not the only one. Black Panther outsold Captain American: Civil War in pre-sale tickets in its first 24 hours of release…. So no pressure then. [February 2018]
2. Ready Player One
Mostly I’m looking forward to the world building in this movie which could be quite visually interesting and from the trailer I’m digging the whole One Piece vibes. You know: My fortune is yours for the taking, but you’ll have to find it first. I left everything I own in One Piece. [March 2018]
3. Incredibles 2
Do I even require an explanation? – That being said I’ll still give you one!; The Incredibles was the first movie I ever saw in cinema. So it’s a weird circle of life because obviously now I watch so many movies and do the whole blogging thing – in a way I have this superhero family to thank. [July 2018]
4. Crazy Rich Asian’s
I read the book last year and was swept up within a culture that I rarely explore in literature and television. It’s about time mass media was exposed to different cultures/ experiences…. Plus it stars British actress Gemma Chan (Humans) who I am low key obsessed with. [August 2018]
5. Venom
To be honest I am not die hard desperate for this movie’s release. For me I’m curious to see how they’ll tackle Venom; Plot, characters, graphics etc. Plus Tom Hardy is an odd choice if you ask me, so again… I’m very curious to see how this pans out. [October 2018]
Television
1. Black Lightning
There are many reasons for my giddiness over this show. Yes I was once again sucked in by the trailer but the predominantly black cast and general darker tone of the show made me sit up and pay attention. Glad they’ll be releasing this one weekly. [Netflix – January]
2. Britannia
I need something to fill the hole my Viking theme shows left in me, and Britannia seems right up my alley. It’s also a little out there as far as British television goes and to be honest I’ll give anything a chance that isn’t another version of the same old, buddy cop procedural drama. [Sky Atlantic – January]
3. Luther Season 5
Uncle Idris is back again as John Luther. I was surprised to hear of a fifth season considering the fourth came out as a one off after the show technically ended at the third. Yeah I know. Perhaps it’s redemption for that sub-par one off revival…But who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth? [BBC One – Unknown]
4. Doctor Who
Don’t @ me but Peter Capaldi sucked as The Doctor, not only that but the series itself was a mess – why did they take a year off in 2016?! There were some pretty cool storylines here and there and I loved most recent companion Bill – but overall I didn’t warm to him and it’s about time someone hit that big fat reset button. [BBC One – Unknown]
5. How To Get Away With Scandal
Auntie Shonda announced on her Twitter earlier this month what we’ve all been waiting to hear – a How To Get Away With Murder, Scandal crossover. Mate. Suffice to say we are all gassed. There is no date as of yet, but a script is in the works and to be honest, being that this is Scandal‘s final season – it’s happening soon. [Sky Living – Unknown]
So there you have it. My Top Five most anticipated watches of 2018.
These are my Top Five – What are yours?
