They Will Kill You falls into the comedy horror genre, making it more accessible for film fans who prefer not to lie awake at night thinking their house is haunted or their partner is possessed.

Think Kill Bill meets John Wick—but without the emotional undercurrent of a missing child or avenging a dead dog.
It’s gory, funny, and visually striking, with some beautiful shots thanks to a magnificent purpose-built set, as well as a handful of inventive action sequences (see image above). If you’re after a low-stakes, predictable comedy horror with a lot of female rage, a bit of flair, and a decent soundtrack, then strap in. PSA: stay away if you hate devil worship… or pork.
Zazie Beetz as a sword-wielding, shit-kicking Trojan horse is great. Her survival instincts, unnatural fighting ability, and steel-faced resolve sell the chaos around her—refreshingly, there are no drawn-out scenes of panic or confusion here.
Meanwhile, Myha’la—who we’ve seen deliver such strong, intense performances in Industry and Bodies Bodies Bodies—is given far less to work with here and ultimately has less screen presence than expected.
A random but jarring note on the word “bitch” which is utilised as a full stop throughout the film. Once, maybe twice, sure, but the repetition quickly cheapens the film, undercutting its sharper moments and making the dialogue feel lazier than it should.
They Will Kill You delivers exactly what it promises: a gory, irreverent, female-led comedy horror with flashes of style and energy. But while it’s an easy, entertaining watch, it never quite digs deeper, settling instead for surface-level thrills over substance.
