February 2026

My monthly film and television round up, from new releases to overdue catch-ups.

Film (Cinema)

Send Help
Rachel McAdams is tired of being underappreciated by new boss, Dylan O’Brien. When the balance of power shifts she gets her revenge.

Sam Raimi returns to direct this comedy-horror here.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You
Rose Byrne is a mother who has had enough. She’s smashed all the plates she’s been spinning because why should women have to do it backwards and in heels with a smile on their face?

The Secret Agent
Wagner Moura is a former professor trying to flee an authoritarian regime. This movie sings in the silences: the gaping hole of lives cut short and stories left unfinished and its effects on those left behind.

“Wuthering Heights”
Emerald Fennell’s reimaging of Emily Bronte’s gothic novel.

There are some interesting story, stylistic, visual, and musical choices, but it tries too hard. As an adaptation… can you still use that word if you erase half the book and change the underlying themes?

Film (At Home)

The Ballad of Wallis Island
A very British awkward comedy-drama. It was effective for such a simple film, and the emotional payoff was kind of worth it.

Malcolm X
A sweeping epic charting the life of the activist Malcolm X.

Don’t be put off by the running time; it works to emphasize how much Malcolm’s experience’s shaped him. Spike Lee’s visual language is impressive.

Other films from the couch this February:
The Tale of Princess Kaguya: A Japanese fantastical anime about parental control.
The RIP: Who can turn down watching besties Damon and Affleck in action?

Television

After The Flood (Season 2)
Police drama set in a Yorkshire village starring Sophie Rundle.

Loved how they continued the story from series one. Mackie is a terrifying villain.

Smallville
The teenage adventures of Clark Kent.

It’s nice to have a 22-episode, 10-season show ticking along in the background. After a shaky start I’ve really gotten into this.

Gen V (Season 2)
Funnily enough I never got on with The Boys, but Gen V (which is set in the same world) speaks to me. It’s gross and it’s gory but I love a plucky teen solving a mystery.

What have you been watching and recommending in February?
