The tale of the last rebel

Top Gun: Maverick is a continuation and conclusion for every rebel without a cause, outsider, slick-haired bad boy on a motorbike movie character that ever lived past the credits.

Where are they now? You might occasionally wonder. Well almost forty years on, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell confirms these characters are exactly where we left them.

The resident bad boy still lacks the ability to stop themselves from going that little bit too far, they haven’t risen through their career ranks, they live a solitary life and still rock a leather jacket. But most importantly to note about these men we once lusted over and or wanted to be, is that they are truly happy.

There are no shoulda, coulda, woulda’s from the choices they made, they are more than content with being the best at what they do even as their peers excel around them.

Top Gun: Maverick shows the success in following your own path, of being defiant and living in the moment. It’s that sense of freedom and pleasure in what he does that attracts us to Maverick, the last rebel.
