It’s that time again: MONTHLY FAVOURITES. Succinct favourites across my consumption of film, television and novels, as well as what I’ve been up to creatively.
FILM 🍿
There was a lot of film watchage in December, and to be honest my re-watch of old favourite, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe almost cinched the top spot. However of course it has to be MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM that came out swinging. Based on the play of the same name by August Wilson, this movie stood out for its immersive performances from Viola Davis and the now late Chadwick Boseman.
TELEVISION 📺
I managed to catch up on a bit of television this month which included the likes of The Undoing staring Nicole Kidman and the newly dimensional Hugh Grant, as well as the mind bending and tension filled The Third Day – however the talk of the ton is of course BRIDGERTON. The period piece based on the Julia Quinn novels brought to us by Shondaland, gave me exactly what I need this time of the year – some regency scandal.
Funnily enough I didn’t like the book The Duke and I all that much at the time. However having watched the series I feel I need to give the rest of the Bridgerton bunch a second look.
DOCUMENTARY OF THE MONTH 🎥
If there is one area I am always lacking it’s in my documentary viewing. This is perhaps the second month this year that I failed to watch any non fiction programming, but can we just blame life for feeling like we’re living a one off documentary special?
This doesn’t quite help but there is one week left of the NFL regular season before the playoffs and one of my teams is a shoe-in.
BOOK 📖
I did actually manage to read two books this month one of which was a November release. It is of course FORTUNE AND GLORY BY JANET EVANOVICH – aka Tantalizing Twenty-Seven – which saw our unskilled but incredibly lucky heroine Stephanie Plum do what she does best; accidentally get the bad guy.
I’ve given up expecting too much from these books because they’re such harmless reads and I am literally twenty seven books in. What’s the point of stopping?
OTHER ⌨️
Taking December as a rest month, doing little more than eating and being the perfect embodiment of a couch potato, there is little other in this category.
The only thing worth mentioning is the spontaneous PODCAST I ended up doing on Steve McQueen’s Small Axe Anthology. Luckily I wasn’t involved in any of the editing or uploading, I just had to talk! Feel free to have a listen on Spotify.
And that wraps up December, but that doesn’t wrap up 2020….
