It’s that time again: MONTHLY FAVOURITES. Succinct favourites across my consumption of film, television and novels, as well as what I’ve been up to creatively.

FILM 🍿

This one was quite a hard one as of course, May marked my annual ‘A Movie a Day in the Month of May’ and singling out one from over the thirty movies watched took a little thought. However, after a toss-up that included The Matrix Reloaded, Searching and Basic Instinct I finally decided on MANCHESTER BY THE SEA. This one rose above the rest because of the relationship it explored between an Uncle and his Nephew, as well as slowly bringing to surface the reasoning behind the Uncles seeming abnormal behaviour.

TELEVISION 📺

There are a lot of television shows with my name on it to start right now, but having been preoccupied with movies this month the only show I can mention with confidence is HARLEY QUINN. I’m only five episodes in at this point but I’m really enjoying it, which is quite the surprise as I’m not normally a massive Adult Swim fan. However I have been all over the DC-verse since I started watching the movies from the DCAU so getting the chance to explore a villainous female from the world, well I could scarcely resist.

DOCUMENTARY OF THE MONTH 🎥

The only thing I could find the time to do this month was watching a couple of episodes from the Netflix series EXPLAINED – specifically the episodes on the Question Mark and The Stock Market. It’s amazing how this series is able to take a complicated topic and break it down for a layman, and also how to make what could look like a mundane topic like the Question Mark, and turn it into a riveting piece of non-fiction.

BOOK 📖

Interestingly enough I didn’t do too badly with reading this month managing to squeeze in six novels. Of them, THE OUTSIDERS BY S.E. HINTON was the most noteworthy. Such a short story painted a unique insight into the 1950s between the have’s and the have not’s and stood to me as still being applicable to today’s society where people play the hand they’ve been dealt in life in the only way they know how.

OTHER ⌨️

I have been a little indisposed this month which means I’ve had to put a pin the writing. I did, however, manage to do some redecorating in my parent’s study which was a fun and exhausting task, as well as pretty much doing a mass cleansing of junk across the house. I, of course, watched a movie a day with an all-time best of four in one day, I added a Random Reviews series to the blog as new movies are lacking, and finally got in a couple of new articles on Medium.
