New edition to le blog: MONTHLY FAVOURITES. I am swapping out my monthly wrap-up posts for a more succinct favourite pick spanning across my consumption of film, television and novels, as well as what I’ve been up to creatively.

That’s all there is too it and you probably didn’t need that little prelude so let’s just jump to it. The first month of the year – of the new decade has come and gone. I admittedly had a staggering start but I think I’ve just about got my footing.

FILM 🍿

Amongst the thirteen movies I watched this month were Marriage Story, About Time and The Stepford Wives. My favourite however has got to go to THE GENTLEMAN. Love a bit of Guy Ritchie, and to boot I thought the movie was a well done modernisation to Ritchie’s generally old school gangster type movies.

TELEVISION 📺

I was incredibly disappointed with the second series of Titans, it was bittersweet to hear Watchmen would most likely not return and, I began my annual rewatch of Avatar: The Last Airbender. However OUTLANDER (Season 4) gets my shining star for the month. I always put off watching the series because I enjoy it so much and Season 4 was no less of a wild ride. The show did such a good job of moving the characters and their stories forward, dropping in nuggets of history – and my GOD do they know how to create a wicked, despicable and villainous character!

DOCUMENTARY OF THE MONTH 🎥

I’m trying to broaden my horizons this year and have told myself that I will attempt to watch at least one Documentary a month. My first choice was TELL ME WHO I AM, on Netflix, which had been recommended to me by quite a few people in 2019. It was – surprising. Very well produced in the stylised reconstructions (are all documentaries like this? I have no idea) and just such a unique albeit harrowing story.

BOOK 📖

Of the three books I read this month – I can’t really rave about any of them. If I had to choose then the most interesting would be SIX OF CROWS BY LEIGH BARDUGO. I know, I know. If you’re well versed in the YA book community your jaw will have dropped that I haven’t already read such a coveted book. I enjoyed it well enough, the characters were well written and the world incredibly detailed in its creation. However I can’t help but wonder if the anticipation killed a lot of the enjoyment I might have derived.

OTHER ⌨️

I know I don’t tend to do ‘personal information’ but I figure this would be a good way for me to stay motivated each month (we’ll see how long that lasts).

The first episode of the web series I worked on for the bulk of last year was released earlier this month. It’s called phase two and is about a group of friends living in that weird space of being an adult, but not quite felling like they’re living up to all its social descriptions.

If you happen to give it a watch, feel free to like or subscribe so you know when we release more episodes, and of course – let me know what you think!

Roll on February
