Best friends and genius’ C.J (Eden Duncan-Smith) and Sebastian (Dante Crichlow) have done the impossible – they’ve cracked the space-time continuum and now possess the ability to go back in time.

Revolutionary and exciting, but also dangerous to boot, like most things in life, actions have consequences, and when you tamper with time those consequences are more often than not life-altering.

See You Yesterday

As you probably know by this point, I’m a sucker for time travel and that was my principal driving force on choosing to watch this movie.

In the first ten minutes, I was far from impressed. I felt the tiny budget of the movie in the “effects” and the silences, and as I am currently off “teen movies” I was also looking for an excuse to throw in the towel. However, I am so glad I didn’t, as this movie turned out to be incredibly smart, emotional and thought provoking.

Discovering time travel is nothing more than a means to an end for CJ and Sebastian; it guarantees their win at the science fair and admission into top colleges. This transitions beautifully into its encompassment with the ever relevant issue of unprovoked police brutality towards African-Americans.

The repetition of events really hits home hard, the stakes get high and stay higher, and the characters keep the rules of travelling back in time easy yet smart and therefore easy to follow for the audience.

Though the main character CJ really annoyed me, and the conclusion was a little too open-ended for my taste, See You Yesterday, was a surprisingly weighted sci-fi drama that stayed with me days after its ending.
