This months finally watched was chosen simply because The Blind Side was recently released on Netflix. I realised I’d never gotten around to watching it and thought why the heck not.

the blind side - sat down

Based on a true story; Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) had been passed from home to home before he is taken in by the Tuohy’s, led by the formidable Leigh Anne (Sandra Bullock). What starts out as an act of charitable goodwill blossoms into family.

Michal has a chance at a future he could never have previously imagined for himself in a safe and loving environment – but that doesn’t mean he can run from the life he’d be leaving behind.

The Blind Side

I thought there would be more to this movie than there was. Not to say that I was disappointed by the outcome. I expected more violence and dramatics but was glad to find it incredibly warm and light.

The movie was also surprisingly emotive. I found myself close to tears at some very simple, but heavy lines that emphasised the disparities in the way Michael had been brought up compared to the Tuohy’s.

Who doesn’t love Sandra Bullock? Truth be told I haven’t seen her in much lately since Ocean’s 8, however she excelled in her depiction as the tough cookie no-nonsense southern “mama” and her awards and nominations for best actress were well and truly deserved.

My only minor qualm about this movie is that I wanted Lilly Collins character; Collins Tuohy to be more involved. She came off as a spare part in the storyline, she didn’t add anything to the movie, and nor did she really take anything away. Whenever she did come on screen my only thought about the character was; wow Lily Collins looks so young.

This was incredibly feel good, and I wouldn’t say no to either rewatching The Blind Side sometime soon or offering it up as a solid recommendation.
