Christmas Bells Jingled: 🔔 🔔 🔔

The Princess Switch: About to marry a Prince, Duchess of Montenaro, Margaret Delacourt (Vanessa Hudges) seeks a chance to live a normal life before her permanent ties to the Belgravian monarchy. An kismet meeting has her finding a the opportunity of royal reprieve in Chicago baker Stacey Denovo…. (Vanessa Hudges).

The Princess Switch

During the first ‘run in’ scene I of course couldn’t help but yell the classic line from the pilot episode of Sister, Sister: That girl has my face! Once I’d gotten that out of the way. I was surprised to find that this movie did not bore me.

I say surprised because the old Rich/Poor switcheroo is an old and well known tale derived from story of The Prince and the Pauper. Dylan and Cole Sprouse have done it, Barbie has done it, Lindsay Lohan, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Tia and Tamera; done done done. And yet… even though I knew exactly how this movie would most likely pan out, it was still an enjoyable experience.

The word Christmas is not mentioned a lot in this movie, even though it is set around the holiday period. However the picturesque (and fake) setting of Belgravia gave you enough of the Christmas Cosies to not need the holiday mentioned in every other scene.

Vanessa Hudgens was really good in this movie, I liked her Posh British accent and she did a decent job of morphing herself into each of her two characters and playing around with their distinguishable traits and personalities.

I did think at one point that more could happen, more could have been at stake, more close calls could have been had, and more than the standard coupling would have been nice. But then I reminded myself what I had sat down to watch; it wasn’t a high octane triple twist drama, but a feel good family movie for the holidays.

  1. Great article!

I keep hearing about this movie on Netflix. It sounds super cheesy but super fun also. Hoping to check it out sometime soon.

By the way, love Sister, Sister! I use to watch that show all the time back in the day.
