Nightmares or visions? Peter (Michael Peña) has to decipher the meaning behind the images that show the upcoming destruction of everything he holds dear, or risk tearing his family apart.

Extinction

Going into this movie I found it a little slow and the characters/actors very stiff. Based on trailers and Peter’s visions very early on in the movie, I knew some sort of alien invasion was going to take place. From that it was a waiting game for events to finally pick up.

This could just be a personal pet peeve but I found the children in this movie unfathomably annoying. Seriously – I was yelling at the screen, pausing to explain my grievances, and slapped my palm to my forehead enough times to leave a dent. You could also hear them constantly yelping and whimpering in the background which was yes realistic, but more importantly irritating.

So there was a nice twist in the movie that I didn’t see coming – and more often than not I always see a twist coming.

With said twist, also came an explanation for a lot of my initial reservations about the movie from costume to characteristics. However on the flip side of this, just because there was a motive attached, it didn’t eradicate those initial negative feelings.

I wouldn’t exactly recommend this movie, however I will say it was clever and Extinction would make for a nice prequel to a high octane television series taking place after the events depicted.
