As the saying goes; United we stand, divided we fall. Well stand our heroes must, in a war they don’t fully understand, but know that the implications could stretch to infinity and beyond.

Thanos (Josh Bronlin)has come for the Asgardians, specifically for what they harbor – The Space Stone. But Thanos isn’t going to stop there, as his self appointed mission to restore balance to the universe requires him to have possession of all six Infinity Stones. Already wielding Power he needs Space, Reality, Soul, Mind and Time before he can rest knowing he has fulfilled his life’s purpose.
Thankfully there are a plethora of people who refuse to stand idilly by.
Hatchets are buried as old friends and new come together and stand to fight side by side, however more than Earth is threatened if Thanos succeeds and so a collaboration across the galaxy with the most unlikely allies is required.
While Thanos is ready to sell his soul to do what he believes to be right, our saviors have ask themselves what they’re willing to sacrifice for the state of the universe, and if just this once, the price is too high.

Avengers: Infinity War required no foreplay. The movie got the ball rolling from literally the first shot and you could cut the immediate tension in the cinema with a knife. After the amount of audience anticipation for this movie I was glad they didn’t jerk us around.
The scale of this movie was like no other before and so naturally I assumed some heroes would be neglected. To an understandable – and well explained – extent, some were, but for the most part there was a good amount of balance in storyline and screen time with everyone from Hulk to Star-Lord and Scarlet Witch to Okoye.
As much as we like to group together all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, each one has its own unique voice through music, dialogue and tone. Avenger: Infinity War juggled that individuality well while still keeping it as part of a whole, from the knowing sounds of Wakanda to Thor’s ‘stupidity’ laced humour.
Interestingly and unexpectedly Avengers: Infinity War gave me a whole new perspective on a superhero I had previously dismissed; Spider-Man. His youth and eagerness had initially grated on me but I must admit that firstly… that new suit though!, and secondly I might go back and give Spider-Man: Homecoming a re-watch with a different mindset.

I won’t lie and pretend that there was much wrong with this movie. It was a superhero action movie and it featured more than enough of one and the right amount of the other, encompassed all within a pretty solid and pacing narrative. What more could one possibly ask for?
Me being me, I will pick at one subjective part that I wasn’t a fan of, and that’s the introduction. Seriously. Could it have been any longer?
Yes we opened with chaos and calamity but Thanos’ bad guy introduction and manifesto personally took away from the momentum the movie started with. More than once I wondered when he would put me out of my misery, and every time the scene just kept going.
This could be taken either way, but overall the movie for me erred more on the side of Average/Good, probably because it was a set up for Part Two. Introductions had to be made, set-ups orchestrated and pieces had to organically land into place, ready for next year. It was a solid movie but I wouldn’t use a word like fantastic, or even feature it in a top five of Marvel movies so far.

So there we have it, the Marvel movie we’ve been waiting for, now only one film away from a conclusion and for the first part of a duology I think it did its job well. I wasn’t dissatisfied by the ending, but at the same time I was left wanting more.
It could be said that the emotional experience of the ending was robbed from the majority of us who knew this was Part One. Trust me – I saw the anguish on my sister’s face who was left baffled at the end of the movie because she thought this was literally it. #StillLaughing
