A paranoid schizophrenic walks into a bar…
So I believe when this movie came out I had every intention of seeing it… and just didn’t.
The biopic Legend tells the true story of the Kray Twins during the height of their power as gangsters of the East End, to their eventual and inevitable fall.
After this movie Tom Hardy became synonymous with its title, and it’s more than understandable why. Ronnie and Reggie Kray were as different as any set of identical twins can be and Hardy managed to embody both his roles in their own right. It was actually pretty damn impressive and helped give Hardy the clout he has an actor today.
Tom Hardy and his hardiness aside, the story the movie chose to tell of the Twins themselves was sub-par.
You remember in school during English or History when the teacher would put on a movie based on the topic you had just finished studying? If you were lucky the movie was worth shutting up and paying attention even for the rowdiest students.
But once the bell rang the spell was broken and you found that the movie was wholly forgettable.
Having done a little further research into the Kray Twins, it was made even more obvious that the movie lacked substance and could have been… more. It was interesting enough but sadly I was never particularly invested.
Shout out to some of the other cast members who didn’t really bring anything special to the movie, but was still nice to see nevertheless; Colin Morgan (Merlin, Humans), David Thewlis (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), and of course Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service)
And of course one more round of applause to the main man himself.
