It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Netflix is making sure we have a thorough selection of Christmas movie cheese to get us through the season and making us all wish we had our own Christmas Prince.

Junior Copy Editor and aspiring Journalist Amber Moore (Rose McIver) has just been given her big break. Granted it’s because none of the actual reporters are available so close to Christmas, but this is her chance to prove herself and she’s not about to turn it down.
The story of the hour revolves around the possible abdication of the throne by the Prince of Aldovia. The reported playboy Prince Richard (Ben Lamb) is impossible to track down by the press but Amber isn’t about to turn away from a career making story without a fight.
However once she gets her foot through the royal door, Amber has to decide what’s more important; the story or the people behind it.

hallmark movie
/ˈhɔːlmɑːk ˈmuːvi/
noun
1. A cheesy movie with the same basic/repetitive plot as all others of its type.
2. A range of seasonal movies with similar romantic storylines.
Although this was of course a Netflix Original – A Christmas Prince comes under the sub-genre of Hallmark Movie.
With that being said, to a certain extent you’re not really allowed to slate such movies as you already known what you’re getting yourself into before you even press play.
Girl and boy dislike one another, girl lies to to boy for own agenda, girl and boy realises they misjudged the other, it’s too late for girl to reveal the truth, everything comes crashing down around girl, their love born over the past week prevails.
A Christmas Prince was no exception to the rule and featured a number of the standard staples including the more than supportive family member, the questionably gay friend and the black cheerleader friend.
The story itself did stand out from others of its type by featuring a little unexpected twist, but whether you want to yell at the characters and their inane decisions or root for them to succeed, it was still an all round cute and easy watch.

So for those of you who have never seen a Hallmark Movie, I imagine A Christmas Prince came as/will come as a surprise for you, but luckily the party doesn’t stop here.
If you want to continue the cheesy Christmas cheer then I would recommend switching the television over to the movie channel Christmas 24 (UK) where they are showing Hallmark-esque Christmas movies… you guessed it… for 24 hours straight until the end of the holiday season.
Of course if you are more of the instant gratification sort then I would suggest the following which are immediately available for your viewing pleasure on Netflix (UK).
Christmas Inheritance
A Christmas Detour
A Wish for Christmas
You’re welcome and Merry Christmas.
